streaking while the house is under construction?
But this part isn t anymore, Ayden, Mikey answered in between bites of food, looking at Ayden as
if he was nuts. You said while the construction was going on. It s not in here anymore.
I told you he would figure out a loophole, Darcy said with a snicker.
What are you? Mikey asked me, tilting his head as he studied me curiously. You smell different
than the other vampires. Of course it took me a moment to decipher child talk because he really had
said, Ewe scmell diferwent tan the othver ampwires. Yeah, I wasn t used to it.
He smells different to you? Miles asked curiously, glancing at the little boy and then me. You ve
always smelled like vampire to me.
He smells like one but different. Mikey leaned in and sniffed the air around me. Sweeter, like
    sugar and sunshine.
That might be the nicest thing any naked little boy has ever said to me, I replied with a giggle. I m
half vampire, Mikey. I m half fae, too.
You don t have any wings, he accused with a pout. And no pixie dust either.
No, but my mother had wings. Pixie dust isn t a real thing though. Since I m only half fae, I don t get
    wings.
     Fangs?
Yup, I have fangs, I answered, letting them slide out.
Cool. Then he stuffed his face with more mac and cheese.
I ve always wanted to meet a werewolf, so I think you guys are really cool, too, I admitted with a
    wink.
You should go watch the wolves out back playing tag then, Darcy told me as he pointed toward the
    kitchen.
Actually I was going to call them in so they could help Mikey clean up, Ayden admitted sheepishly.
Darcy shook his head and walked toward the way he had pointed. Moments later we heard a shrill
whistle and I burst out laughing. I guess that signaled food around a bunch of wolves.
    So cool.
    Chapter 6
I let out a very un-grown-up-like yelp and practically launched myself up into Digger s arms as
several wolves came scurrying into the foyer. They were focused on the food until they all froze and
sniffed the air. Then as one they all turned their furry heads to look at me.
One man shifted back to human form and growled. What are you?
Tyler, Darcy barked out, pushing the man away from me. He s the head of our Council and a guest
in our house. Seriously, man? Could you like watch it?
Right, sorry, the guy mumbled and then glanced at me. Sorry. I smelled vamp but something else,
too. I was held by demons, which I thought were vamps at the time, so yeah, I m still having some
    issues adjusting.
No problem, I said gently, sliding down Digger and smiling at the man. My fathers were vampires
    and my mother was fae.
Fae exist? His eyes went wide as if he was waiting for me to transform into a Disney character.
    Riiiight.
Yeah, but most don t come onto this plane for long. I shrugged. My mother did because she had the
gift of foresight and saw her mates were on this side. Her family disowned her, and fae are kind of
like the human Amish. You leave the community and you re dead to them, so all I know about fae is
    from what she taught me.
So you could have family on another plane and they didn t even contact you or comfort you when
your parents died? Digger asked, his tone equal parts pissed and shocked.
I don t know if they know, but we didn t even know how to contact them, I answered, glancing at
Miles. We had discussed it after they died, but how did one go to another plane if they d never been
there? I m only half fae, so I don t know if I could even cross over. It just wasn t an issue really.
Do you taste different to vampires like we do? Tyler asked, glancing between my mates.
He tastes much sweeter than humans or vampires, but I don t know what wolves taste like, Miles
hedged as he looked to Ayden with a raised brow.
He wasn t in town when you guys mated, Digger explained with a snicker.
I swear, does everyone know about that? Darcy looked annoyed but not really angry. I didn t
know werewolf blood was like an aphrodisiac. It s like Viagra, speed, and testosterone all at once,
and I drank a lot when I claimed Ayden, so that was, um, an interesting night.
Seriously? I pouted as I stared at Ayden. You get aphrodisiac blood, awesome abilities, a musical
voice, and gorgeous eyes! All I get for being part fae is to be short and get fat unlike most vampires.
Fae tend to be rounder. I want cool stuff, too!
You re not fat, Miles growled, his angry expression mirroring Digger s. How many times do we
have to tell you that and that we love your body? And you have beautiful eyes!
Maybe a few more. I shrugged impishly, not knowing how else to deal with their anger. But you
interrupted my point. I thought of something else. Oh, and I couldn t smell Miles was my mate like
vampires can. So seriously, I think I got screwed on this deal.
You ve got a cool gift, Andre offered. I d love to be able to teleport. That would be helpful in a
    fight.
I guess. I rolled my eyes. When would I ever be fighting?
And you re young for a fae. Miles scrunched his eyebrows together in thought. I remember your
mother saying she didn t come into her powers until after she turned twenty-one whereas vamps get
them when they transition or earlier.
When were you going to share that tidbit? I asked with a huff.
I thought she told you, and honestly I forgot until you just brought it up. He shrugged. Yeah, wasn t
his fault. And my mother might have told me, but that was so long ago I could have forgotten as well.
I have another question, but I don t want to be rude, I said to Ayden, still trying to ignore that Tyler
was naked and comfortable with it. Then again, that wasn t the weirdest thing in the room as the
wolves finished licking up the food off the floor and the remaining bits on Mikey since he d gotten
mac and cheese all over him. I guess that was one way to get a bath! Do you guys hunt in wolf form?
We have problems with an excess of deer in the spring.
Yeah, we can help with that. Ayden flashed me what only could be described as a wolfish smile.
    Pun intended.
Cool, we could also use some help updating the house and some custom furniture made to match the
    originals.
That s my area. Tyler chuckled. I ve been teaching everyone here how to help update. Once this
house is done, we can come over and help with whatever you need.
I ll introduce you to my advisor and he can set it all up and what your cost is. I smiled until Tyler
    frowned. What?
Tyler, don t, Darcy said quietly. He didn t mean it as an insult.
I don t understand what I did wrong. I apologize if I offended you. No offense was meant, I agreed
    quickly.
Pack doesn t pay each other for their help, Ayden explained with an understanding smile. We see
your coven as our pack now, so if we offer help, it s not because we expect monetary compensation.
Sounds like taking advantage of your friends if you don t at least get paid for your time, Spike said
quietly and then blushed when he realized he said it aloud. Sorry. I didn t mean to insult your ways.
No, I get what you re saying. Tyler chuckled. I wouldn t pay for the materials myself, but we work
more on a barter system. He doesn t get paid for being head of the Council, but that protects us, so in
turn we give services in our given areas.
No, I hedged, trying to think about how to put what I wanted to say into words. But my role
specifically is one I get by birth and with that comes my family s estate, so in a way I never have to
worry about money because of my lineage. I don t think you get an estate or financial freedom for
your role, so compensation to buy what you need seems appropriate. [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
