walk Bob before we leave. It s a long drive and I d rather him not have
any little accidents in the car.
Sam set down his video game. Okay.
Sara watched her son trudge down the basement stairs to get Bob
before turning her attention back to the house. She wanted to give it one
last look-over before she left. They d made a lot of good memories here. A
lot of bad ones as well. Those she would just as soon forget.
She heard the back door slam shut before she trudged up the stairs.
She entered her bedroom, now bare, only the plush mauve carpet and
wallpaper left to speak of her presence there. Yep, she would miss the old
house. It had been a good home for her and Sam while it lasted.
An arm shot out from behind her and wrapped around her, yanking
her back against a broad, masculine chest. What took you so long?
Sara craned her neck, staring up into an identical set of aquamarine
eyes that gazed out at her from her son s face. She shrugged. It s not
easy burying the man you love.
One dark eyebrow rose. Well, if you take into consideration that Sam
and I have been right here in the house waiting for you to come home, I
wouldn t think it would be too hard on you.
Sara groaned. Don t remind me. Besides, I couldn t very well act
suspicious and give away that you aren t really dead, now could I?
Tristan nipped at her neck, directly beneath her ear. No, but you
didn t have to spend so much time there. I missed you.
What would you ve had me do dance a jig on the empty casket?
That wouldn t have been very convincing if your former employer sent
someone to watch like Ramsey suspected they would.
Tristan rubbed his nose against the side of her face. Kissed her
cheek. Did you see anyone who looked out of place?
No, but then I wasn t searching the crowd either. I was too busy
trying to stay in character. I m afraid you re not getting much of an
actress. If anyone was watching, I hope they bought the act.

I m sure you did fine. Tristan spun her around and gazed down into
her eyes. We ve nothing to worry about. It s all smooth sailing from here
    on out for us.
Tristan pressed his lips to hers, kissing her softly, sweetly. Sara
twined her arms around him and hugged him tight. She broke the kiss,
before she began to melt in his arms like chocolate on a hot summer day.
They had a long drive ahead of them and needed to be on their way.
There would always be time to make love later. A new home awaited
them and she intended to christen every room.
Tristan stared down at her, a serious expression on his handsome
face. Have I told you how much I love you today?
Only about a hundred times but I wouldn t mind hearing it again.
I love you, Sara McCoy. You know we still haven t figured out what
my new name s going to be. What would you say to being Mrs. Stan
McCoy? We ll keep your last name since we obviously can t use mine.
That way you won t have to change either yours or Sam s last name.
Sounds good to me, Stan. Just don t get mad at me if I yell out the
    wrong name during sex.
We ll just have to keep practicing until you get it right.
The grin that spread across Sara s face was filled with wicked delight.
Well, you know what they say practice makes perfect.

    Missing In Action
    Epilogue
Heavy boot pressed down over the accelerator, Shame sent the
souped-up sedan he drove soaring down the interstate. He felt a little bad
for leaving Sara and Tristan to deal with the backlash from the explosion,
but not enough to stay. He d made sure they wouldn t have to worry
about Lester Morgan anymore, at least.
Trapped under the rubble, his body twisted and broken, Morgan had
still been clinging to life when Shame entered the room to double-check
behind Tristan. Shame had known his partner s first concern was Sara
and he hadn t wanted to leave anything to chance. As far as Shame was
concerned, the jagged chuck of cement he d used to finish severing
Morgan s head from his body had been too quick a death for the vicious
bastard. He would ve liked drag it out and make the son of a bitch suffer,
but there wasn t time. He d barely managed to plant the cadavers
Ramsey had altered to match his and Tristan s dental records and sneak
out through the back, before the final explosion.
A good tune came on the radio and Shame bent forward to turn it up.
Adrenaline coursed through his veins, making his heart race and his
body sweat. He was excited, but also as nervous as a virgin at prom.
Over six long years had passed since he d been home. Considering
that everyone he loved thought he was dead and buried, Shame wasn t
sure what kind of reception would await him when he showed up out of
    the blue.
Though his family was in for a shock, there was little Shame didn t [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
